Tether Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 24, 2026
Tether is a personal-growth companion that you talk to over time. This
policy explains what information the app collects, how it is stored, and
who it is shared with. If anything is unclear, email
support@livetethered.com.
What we collect
When you use Tether, the app stores:
- An anonymous account identifier generated on your device the first time you open the app.
- The content of your conversations with the app, including any intentions, identities, reflections, and dates you share.
- A first name.
- Your device's timezone, so the app can show you content at appropriate times of day.
- Basic usage signals (which screens you opened, when you completed onboarding) used to operate the app, measure how it is being used, and improve it.
- An optional email address — stored only if you choose to add one, so you can recover your account and history if you lose your device. Email is never required and never shared for advertising.
- Your subscription status — whether a free trial or a paid subscription is active. We record the status, never a card or payment method.
- A push notification token, if you turn notifications on.
What we do not collect
- We do not require an email address, and we never ask for or store your phone number or full name.
- We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, calendar, or microphone data.
- We never receive your card number or payment details. Apple processes payment; we are only told whether your subscription is active.
- We do not use advertising identifiers, we do not use advertising or cross-app tracking SDKs, and we do not show ads.
How your data is stored
Your data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted on Supabase, which
runs on Amazon Web Services infrastructure. Data is encrypted at rest by
the underlying storage layer, and all network requests between the app
and our servers are encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS.
Who we share data with
Tether uses a small number of third-party services to operate. Each
receives only the data needed to perform its function:
-
Anthropic, PBC. The conversations you have with the
app are sent to Anthropic's Claude API in order to generate the app's
responses. Anthropic's handling of this data is governed by their
privacy policy.
-
Railway. Our backend server runs on Railway's
infrastructure.
-
Supabase. Our database is hosted by Supabase, which
operates on Amazon Web Services.
-
Apple. Apple processes payment for subscriptions and is
the system of record for whether a subscription is active. Apple also
receives crash reports and basic install metrics for the app as part of
its standard App Store and TestFlight services.
-
RevenueCat. Our subscription management provider. It
receives your anonymous account identifier and your subscription and
entitlement status. It never receives your conversations.
-
Sentry. Our error-reporting provider, used in both the
app and the backend server. It receives crash and error diagnostics —
error messages, stack traces, and the device and app version involved.
It is configured not to collect personal data by default: your name,
your conversations, and your IP address are not attached to reports.
-
Resend. Our email provider. If you choose to add a
recovery email address, Resend receives that address in order to deliver
your sign-in link. It receives nothing else.
-
Expo and Apple Push Notification service. If you turn
notifications on, these services receive your device's push token and
the text of each notification in order to deliver it. Notification text
is personalised — it can include your first name and the identity word
you are working with — so that content passes through them on its way to
your device.
We do not sell your data to anyone, and we do not share it for
advertising or marketing purposes.
If we add a service that receives your data, this list is updated before
that service goes live.
How long we keep your data
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. The app is
designed around continuity — its value depends on remembering what you
have shared with it over time.
When you delete your account in the app, it is removed from our live
database immediately, along with every conversation,
intention, and reflection attached to it. If you instead ask us to delete
your account by email, we action the request within 30 days.
In both cases, copies of your data may persist for up to
7 days in our encrypted database backups before those backups
age out and are destroyed. Backups exist so that a failure cannot lose
everyone's history; they are not used to restore individual deleted
accounts.
Your rights
You can permanently delete your account and all of its data at any time,
directly in the app: open Settings → Delete account
and confirm. This cannot be undone. Deleting your account does not cancel
an active subscription — cancel that in your Apple ID subscription
settings.
You can also request a copy of the data Tether holds about you, or request
deletion, by emailing
support@livetethered.com.
Because the app uses anonymous accounts, you will need to include a
recent conversation excerpt so we can identify your account.
Children
Tether is rated 18+ and is not directed to children under 18. We do not
knowingly collect information from children under 18. If you believe a
child has used the app, please contact us and we will delete the
associated account.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a material way, we will update the "Last
updated" date at the top of this page.
